If the weather is a little inclement, The Tea Pottery, on Leyburn business park, is very interesting. You can watch the pottery being made and purchase some wonderful novelty teapots. They also have a tearoom for light refreshments. Another place to visit, next to the Tea Pottery, is The Chocolate Factory, a must for chocoholics!

Leyburn has a famous legend. It is rumoured that Mary Queen of Scots, while fleeing from Bolton Castle, dropped her shawl on a path on the outskirts of Leyburn. Perhaps, this is why the limestone ridge is called 'The Shawl'. It is only a short stroll from the market place and has suburb views of Wensleydale.

The market town of Middleham is not far away. It is famous for its racehorse stables. The medieval castle, once the home of King Richard III is open during the summer and occasionally special events are held here.

Wensleydale Cheese, is of course famous world wide. The Visitor Centre in Hawes offers a tour of the creamery, where the cheese is made, and you can sample some of the different varieties in the shop. They also have a coffee shop and restaurant serving delicious food.

York, Harrogate and Ripon have varied attractions, all within easy commuting distance. The Yorkshire moors and the east coast offer a different scenic adventure, from picturesque villages to rugged coastline and make a good day trip, if only for Whitby fish and chips!
