Places to see
There is so much to see and do in the Yorkshire Dales with its breathtaking scenery, wildlife and rich heritage. Whether you love walking or prefer to tour the Dales by bus, bicycle or car, there are stunning views around every corner. Quaint villages, bustling market towns, rivers, waterfalls and heather covered moors.
In and around Leyburn
The Wensleydale Railway Station is a short walk away from Meadow Barn. Steam engines run at specific times during the summer months. The return journey takes approximately two hours. The shorter trip from Leyburn to Redmire is especially scenic and is a good starting point to go walking or cycling.

A walk to historic Bolton Castle is about a mile from Redmire Station and is well worth a visit.
Mary Queen of Scots was incarcerated in Bolton Castle and it is legendary that while fleeing from her imprisonment she dropped her shawl on a path on the outskirts of Leyburn. Perhaps this is why the limestone ridge, on the west side of Leyburn, is called 'The Shawl'. It is only a stroll from the market place and has superb views of Wensleydale.
If the weather is a little inclement then there are a few places to visit locally. The Tea Pottery is very interesting and you can watch the pottery being made and purchase some wonderful novelty teapots. They also have a tearoom for light refreshments. Another place to visit is The Chocolate factory, a must for Chocoholics!
